Bryants park is being scheduled to be demolished soon. Ed and Tari from parks and rec for the city of albany have been working with us to get things ready for the new trails. We had a meeting and discussed what land we could usurp for the new lines. The process is slow going but we should at least have some dirt moved around by the end of the summer. In the mean time, we (Riley, Keaton, Blake, Cody, Myself Noah and many more) have been digging up on the front section and decided to take it over for now until we have our new trails up and running. Keeps us busy and feels good to dig. We will post pictures up soon!

Front page of the Corvallis paper THE GAZETTE TIMES headlined today RIDERS HELP KEEP PARK CLEAN the article was about budget cuts and the condition of the skatepark and how locals clean it and keep it in a condition suitable to ride. Corvallis local, BMX rider Noah Lochner

showed up early on his day off and wanted to ride. So he pushed the water into the drains and cleaned out the Corvallis bowl. Which had a tipped over trash can full of broken glass and other debris. Here are the pictures from the article.

Corvallis local shredders Keaton and Noah took a trip to Woodward Wests winter camp and hung out rode some bikes, partied a little, despite keaton having to work in the shop 99.9% of the time and Noahs messed up back, they still managed to get some cool clips from the trip and have a treat time.

Lurk Trails

Out with the old trails and in with the new!

Since the loss of our friend and fellow rider Luke Esgate, the city of Albany decided that the trails in Bryant Park, Also known as AREA 51 are going to be torn out this spring. However they have agreed to work with us and give us a new location that is accessible by vehicles in case of an emergency incident ever occurs. On the 16th we had our first meeting with the city and talked about our options and possibility's for the new trails. They have agreed to get us water hook ups and even pay for contractors to push around dirt for us. They suggested some spots where we could potentially put the new trails but nothing was set in stone. We came up with this spot because is has a 22 foot elevation drop and we thought it was the best we could work with. Bryant park has history in it of BMX and so we really didn't want to leave that location.

This is the old location at area 51, submerged in water from flooding.

This is the hill that we are planning on starting the new trails at. As you can see there will be a lot of work to be done clearing the ground for the new trails (especially since it is littered with brick chunks)

This is the back of the hill with some ancient foundation still sitting atop of it. 22 foot drop elevation on the other side.

Let us know if you are interested in helping with the new trails. We can use all the help we can get to make these trails better than the last.

"Lurk Trails" meeting update

On Wednesday, December 16th, the main crew of builders (re-modelers for all you sticklers out there) of Area 51 had a round table meeting with the City of Albany parks and rec. director along with a city insurance representative. Some of the guys from the Black Rock Mountain Bike Association also make some time to come down to show their support and give some ideas.

I want to make it clear to everyone out there that it is not intended to be a closed group. This first meeting was a chance for the builders to hear the city's concerns about the existing trails, how they are not able to insure the trails, but how the city of Albany wants to work with the trails builders towards making a city sanctioned, public area for expert to pro level trails.

With that being said, Area 51 Trails will be plowed.

Ed Hodney, Albany parks director said that the existing course (area 51) is closed but will remain until a new trails area is established and at least under construction.

This is somewhat new territory for me, going through the "proper" channels to get sanctioned trails. Some of you may remember the Valley Trails, behind the BMX track in Eugene. Those trails where sanctioned through the ABA untill there was more interest of the racing participants to the trails over the BMX track. Soon after that, they were plowed.

Us builders are hoping, with clear and open communications with the city parks department, that this new sanctioned trail spot will be here to stay. The guys from BRMBA were there to share with us some ideas on how to organize a core group that would be the main connection between the city of Albany and the trails, and also how to structure some proposed plans on lay-out for the City's insurance provider.

This is going to be slow going. If you would like to be involved, hit us up and we'll get you in. Like I said before, we are just starting this whole process. So far we think we have narrowed down a spot in Bryant Park (area 51 is in the same park). Next is getting a proposed lay-out to the city's insurance for approval. After that, The parks department and and organized group of builders would come public with a proposed plan and could possibly start construction.

Well, it's been about three months of building out at the trails in Albany and yesterday Keaton and I rode a couple of the sets in. Now it's time to re-work a couple of things but I believe that they are coming together. Really trying to lift the curse that place has had on it for the last couple years and get all the sets running. Noah and Keaton are about to leave on their big summer adventure to Woodward West. I'm happy for them and at the same time bummed a little because they seem to be the only other people from this area that are really trying hard to get the trails up and running. So... This is a cry for help, to all the riders in Corvallis and Albany to come out to the trails, help a little and ride with me. Most of the hard work is done, and you all know that when it's 90 degrees outside, the last thing you are going to want to do is strive at the blazing hot skate park while you could be chillin at the trails, close to the river, drinking beer and BBQ-ing. Here are a couple photos I took yesterday.

This is the Captain speaking. When it comes to trails these days, they are few and far between. Why build something yourself when the city will build a skatepark for you? Most kids are too lazy to wax a ledge or find a pool or clean out a new spot, let alone devote hours, weeks, months, years to build a good set of trails. A lot goes into finding the spot, planning, acquiring tools, finding water, keeping outsiders out, maintenance, not to mention building the actual jumps, turns, etc. The hardest part is to find people that will actually devote their time. Sure a lot of people act down, but as time goes by the excuses just keep rolling in and the same faces are left contemplating the reasons why. Well now with the trails becoming rideable and sufficient enough to keep us entertained for hours and hours, my fellow builders and I (Dirt Ryan, Junior T, Triston, and me, Kevin aka Cap, as well as a few others) no longer feel its necessary to try to take on new members to help us dig and therefore be part of the committee. You basically missed your chance. If you are allowed out there you know who you are but you also know the rules. For all of those who still wish to try to ride on the coat tails of other trail builders, here are some things to keep in mind:

-Don’t ask us, we’ll ask you.

-Try finding your own spot and building your own trails. We will respect you then and if they are good enough then you can come ride our spot and we’ll ride yours. Thats how it works.

-Don’t download any apps to try to figure out where the trails are.

-Footjams or any variation thereof are automatically shunned. Doing tricks to flat, barspins, whips, and flips are generally not good things at the trails either, unless you are making them damn pretty.

-If you ever are invited to the trails, digging first is mandatory. No dig, no ride. Further points can be gained by bringing us tools, beer, or weed. Never bring a friend out unless approved by the committee.

-Don’t try to slack on digging cuz we’ll notice. Don’t stand around texting the whole fucking time or updating twitter you bitch.

-When you’re riding the trails, if you case something or leave a rut, divot, or mark, you better make damn sure you fix it. Also, don’t launch your bike into the next jump like a fuckin idiot. And leave the trails in better condition than they were when you got there.

-That also means keep the trails clean you dirty pigs. Pick up your god damn trash.

-Don’t bring out cameras of any kind without approval of committee members.

-Don’t flap your gums. Loose lips sink ships.

Ok now just for fun, here’s a little trail quiz:

What are things you would bring out to the trails with you on any given day?

If you answered shovels, tools, water, trash bags, a good attitude, beer, and weed, then great job I’m probably preaching to the choir.

However, if you answered cell phone intended for excessive use, bright colored clothing, video camera, a kook friend of yours, or a shitty disposition on life, then please stay at the skatepark.

Keaton and myself (Noah) went and worked on the front section of the trails last week. I added bricks to continue outlining the top so we could start carving it into a bowl pocket. While keaton cut in and shaped the new line to the landing of the step up. It is coming along nicely!

Tripod in Eugene

Cody Miller Michael schofield and myself took a quick trip to Eugene to rep the new Tripod Oregon shirts and to ride something new. We stopped at some small skatepark called emerald. which was pretty fun concidering it was really small. Then headed over to the Springfield skatepark met up with codys friend Mike and rode everything in sight. Afterwords we decided to go get some food and ride some pretty fun little loading dock bank things where Michael and myself played around with friend jam variations just messin around having fun. demonstrating good teamwork haha! Mike was rippin some sweet up bank to 180 wallride down things which were way cool! and we found a little hip thing with a rail and cody iced the under-bar. We called up Andy BOOGDAWG and headed over to his house and met up with some dudes. We were chillin drinking havin fun and decided to play a game of bike in the driveway. Which was probably the most epic game of bike ever! check back for the edited video of the game. In the mean, here are some pictures from the trip.

Brookings trip

Keaton Noah and Cody took a trip to Brookings and camped out in the middle of nowhere but got to ride a little. heres about 30 minutes at the brooking skatepark. Keep in mind the wind was ridiculous!

New additions to the front

Keaton, myself (Noah), and Cody Miller put in more bricks in the front section along the top of the quarter to the left, turning it into more like a bowl. We also started cutting into the launch into the landing of the step up. We will try to get pics posted up soon on the progress but I encourage you to come out and ride next sunny day we got. You know we will be there!

Portland premier- Refresh

So I was up in Portland after dropping the spouse and offspring off at the airport and found out from Caleb Rucker that there was a premier of Refresh, the new video from Chase Productions. The video has full parts from the likes of Def Paul,Chris Martindale,Scott Fuller,Shay Scheifelbein,Micheal Chace,Greg Tylosky, and Joseph Pennell.

So, I dropped Amy off at 5:30 at PDX and the video was starting at 6. If you know Portland at all, It was a pretty far drive compared to Corvallis. I made it though, just in time to catch up with a couple heads that I have not seen in a while. It was good to see Dean Dickinson and John Bristol. I also ran into Caleb Quanbeck and Adam Perez. It was really good to see everyone.

As the movie got underway, I was standing outside and a couple other people I had not met before rolled up and I was introduced to a fella named Paul. we talked for a little while and then I come to find out, as we are standing there watching the video, Paul says "this is my part". I had no idea that I was standing there with deaf Paul. I had seen some photo's in magazine's before but didn't recognize him. His section is wild and he is a super nice guy. The video is really good. From Paul murdering double kinked rails and huge gaps to "forgot the guy's name" backwards manuals for days, this is a great perspective of Washington dudes having a great time riding bikes and living the BMX lifestyle. I think you could get the video from Goods. Give Shad a shout and peep it.

Trip to Eugene

Alot of riders from corvallis took a trip to eugene to ride with the locals and it was probably one of the most epic days ive had in a long, long time. I dont know if it was the mix of seeing Vetran shredders Josh F, Riley P, and Andy M. AKA boog dawg. ride again all together or what but everyones riding was so good. We filmed the whole trip and are working hard on getting the footage edited so we can post it. The weather was excellent the parks were empty the guys riding threw down. We even rode some street and security was super chill and left us to film Kevin Staninger rippin a wallride to tailwhip off. Keep checking back for the footage! it'll be good. Expect more web edits and road trips over the summer!

Trails update

Keaton and myself [Noah] went to the trails and spent alot of time working on the front section. We got the transfer out of the gopher trail running and its alot of fun to flow through. I was getting sick of waiting for the puddle in front of the quarter to dry up so we dug out the annoying lump that causes water to pool there. So hopefully we wont continue to have that problem.

we watered and repaired the lips to the hip jump next to the tree and its brother to the right.

I spent some time making sure the dirt quarter was prime for flairs as soon as the ground drys up. We got hungry and went to taco bell (which was SOOO GOOD!!!) and when we got back some people had shown up to ride. We figured since we were at a good stopping point we would have a quick sesh. Everyone was riding really good and everyone was getting stoked.

Blake did a ridiculous long nose manual on the walkway which was pretty cool

Keaton and Jimmy = turndowns for days.

I spent most the time taking pics but I wanted a tuck no hander pic so Keaton took one for me.

I got to jump the gopher trails for the first time and they are a lot of fun. I cant wait for the next sunny day.

If you are in Albany check them out. A lot of stuff is going to go down this summer and its looking pretty promising for many bbqs and jams and maybe even a small local comp or something? I wanna see just how crazy stuff can get at the trails!

Here are some photos from a couple of weeks ago of the trails down in Bryant park in Albany. Noah and Keaton started going out a while back and have been working there buts off at the jumps in front. I also started seeing James and a couple of the Albany locals out there too.It seems like there might be a resurgence of trails this year and I couldn't be more stoked. Going out and digging makes riding seem more rewarding. Hearing about the grotto maybe getting plowed bummed me out but at the same time gave me some motivation to get the trails in the back working this year. It has felt like the big jumps in the back get worked on a little every year but never really get rocking. with the jumps up front looking dialed I hope everyone in the scene gets stoked to ride trails.
